“Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?””
Genesis 3:1 NKJV
It so like the devil to ask this typical question in a million and one ways. Did God indeed say? It is not a mere did God say, there is an indeed added for emphasis. What business does the devil have with what God said? Apart from implanting doubt that will lead to disobedience, what is his other goal? Affirm what the Lord has said? Help you follow the plan of God in your life? Help you walk in total submission to the Father? The devil? The accuser of brethren? The one whom there is neither truth nor good in him? The same one that is jealous of the dominion bestowed upon you.?
Has God indeed said?
In the previous blog, one of the highlighted scriptures was, Mathew4:4 that says that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. The far much ‘betterness’ of the Word of God, swallowed the need for and the importance of bread. As AJS recently commented, “Every word that proceeds from the mouth of God is a survival strategy.” This means that, if we are living by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, doubting those words is like denying oneself oxygen. Doubting those words is equivalent to wanting other results apart from living.
Did God really say?
As God’s evidence here on earth, part of the work of the enemy is to frustrate the workings of God in our lives. The bible says the devil comes to kill steal and destroy. By so doing, instruments that are supposed to bring glory and honor to the Lord, as a result of living a perpetually defeated life, the Lord thus appears to be weak and defeated. Don’t forget God was still Almighty while the Israelites, God’s own people, were being mocked and made fun of by the Philistines.
Did God say?
‘God spoke once, but I heard it twice…’
Psalm 62:11 ISV
Was it really God that spoke when the prophesy came?
Did God really tell me to start the business?
Did God really tell me that’ll have that degree?
Did God really say that I’ll have that marriage?
Did God really say I’ll have those children?
Did God really promise to heal me? Did God really say that He will surprise me?
Did really God say?
How can we doubt a voice that as David said, ‘GOD spoke once yet Twice did he hear?’ A still small voice yet has such reverberation! Just in case you missed it the first time, the voice comes again and it neither an echo nor did He speak again. It is a technology known to only the Father Himself.
Has God indeed said?
This question the devil poses in so many ways; I will address five.
Faithlessness: – How can God ask you to cook your last meal for his prophet, He surely must want you dead faster! Is God really willing in my situation? God is always willing, but He is looking for another willing person who will listen, stand up and take their mat and walk. As long as you stay seated down, it doesn’t matter how many times He will shout take your mat and walk… the miracle will never be complete without your participation. Oh Abraham; there is a land which I will show you, but you must go and listen to Me as your google map! Lord if you are willing… I am willing.
Subtle arrogance: – Has God indeed said? A cunning way. Looks like a harmless question yet at the back of it is doubt and the inquisitive mind of a man that will lead to disobedience.
Pride: – Would God really want me to go to Nineveh after all that sin? If God forgave you, why is the other person not a candidate for salvation? For a minister it could be taking lesser recognizable posts in the church. No! I was sent to heal the sick not to wash people’s feet! Really??
Fear: – How can a 4ft tall boy go and attack Goliath? Are you foolish? He uses the foolish things of this world to shame the wise! You’ve not seen it done before; God wants to start with you. Noah, build that ark! Don’t wait for the rain. Build that ark!
Partial submission/ partial obedience: – imagine if Jesus got to the cross and said, this can’t be true… you really are going to let me die… I thought there was a plot twist at this point! Would there be salvation? If God said kill all, why are leaving the fat animals?
Have a blessed week! May God bless you. May the Lord keep you. May you be found in the right place at the right time. May your legs carry you in the right places to the right company.
