Honored Heart’s Desire

I remember when I was applying for school and by the grace of God was accepted into two big schools. Though I was happy with the statistics of being among 18 accepted students out of each bunch of 100 to apply in addition to coming from a community college; I WANTED BIGGER. My need for bigger outdid my thanksgiving. I remember standing in church to testify because it was the good thing to do and I knew it was all God. However, my heart was fixed on, ‘He didn’t deliver as I wanted.’ Months after, I understood the verse, you cannot mock God. As I stood in church, trying to give with my lips what my heart wasn’t offering, God closed my mouth. All I could utter for five minutes or so was, ” Am scared!” This in itself is a blessing as both you and I don’t know how I would have stained my blessing that day. How I would have robbed myself a testimony before its even fully developed. Oh Zachariah, wait till the baby is born and thus the only thing you’ll need to do is to agree with Heaven on the name of the child; John.

Looking back, as I sat to watch someone give a testimony in a certain church, I juxtaposed my heart then to the heart of this humble lady. While I thought I needed more than what God provided, this lady said, “I thank God for honoring my heart’s desire!”

Before I explain this sentence in many words, let me elaborate on my love for testimonies.

You see, sometimes when am not able to tune in to a whole service in an online church; I do make it a must see category to hear the testimonies of the children of God. Maybe this is a post under a post but testimonies of other believers is a must to a child of God. The bible says that they overcame him, through the word of their testimony and the blood of the Lamb. While preaching is equally important, testimonies give me a God in action kind of a feeling. He ceases being the God of the Israelites and becomes the God of my time. Greater things were written to happen so miracles in the Bible are only foundational. Greater and mightier things are supposed to be happening and even creations longed to see this day! Testimonies are powerful!

“I thank God for honoring my heart’s desire.”

That was my preaching for the day. I was reminded of my ungrateful heart. When I pray, I expect God to do, don’t you? That’s okay, even the Bible says, If you ask anything in my name, believe and you will receive. This is the part where I say that, this verse has confused so many that we pray for everything and anything and expect God to be the genie in the bottle; your wish, my command.

In this verse, alignment is key. Your relationship with God is of uttermost importance. When aligned, our prayers are focused on fulfilling His desires. However, most of our prayers are centered around our hearts desire. Yet we are so frustrated when He doesn’t answer or give Him the praise that He deserves after our prayers are answered. You want to go spend some soft-life time in Paris, what Godly goals that are on heaven calendar for your life are you going to accomplish? Yet, it is not bad or wrong, and He may come through and answer. The question is, do you realize what God just did for you?

I have always said, whatever is needed to sustain us for a day, God supplied automatically as we ushered in the next day. Every morning, he makes sure you have air in your lungs then He supplies His love and mercies according to Lamentation 3:22-23. Therefore, anything extra, is either a fulfilled heart’s desire or His will.

He can do but He doesn’t have to! The winning statement for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego was not we will not bow down. As a child of God, that is the bare minimum that is expected. He said, you will have no other God but ME. However, the winning statement was, “Even if He doesn’t save us…! Show me a people that love God and I will show you these three.

True gratitude and love for God will emerge when we understand that God is all that we need. We will cease hunting for blessings in the Blesser and fix our eyes on the Blesser. Of course the Blesser come with blessings, but our heart knows that He is enough. Our relationship with Him stops being results oriented. If He comes through it is fine, if He doesn’t, He is all that I need anyway. But I am grateful that you have not only given me what I need, but also honored the desires of my heart to be in school.

Thank you for honoring the desire of my heart to be in a marriage. Yes, marriage was created by God but remember there are Eunuchs in the Bible. Paul was single as he decided to focus on ministry but God has honored your request to do both. Kids are a blessing and God promised fertile wombs yet Hannah had to pray till Eli thought that she was drunk. And even after, she had to dedicate Samuel back to God. You have kids that your heart desired, you may have prayed or not. Still, He honored the desire of your heart. Some desires were not even known to you. You went by your day with or without prayer, but God listened to the desire of your heart. Amidst accidents and chaos, you came back home safe! Honored heart’s desire.

Thank you God for not only supplying what I need, but also honoring the desire of my heart.
